SINUMERIK HMI Upgrade

The current architecture is an MMC 103 (6FC5210-0DA21-2AA1) and several OP17-DP (6AV3617-AJC20-OAX1) units on one machine (NCU573.3)and an MMC 103 (6FC5210-0DA20-2AA1) and several OP17-DP (6AV3617-AJC20-OAX1) units on another (NCU571.2). Anyone out there with experience in an upgrade like this, please feel free to contribute any advice, horror stories, need to knows, bulletins, and whatever else you may have to assist. I'm assuming my best bet for the MMC 103s is going to be a PCU50 since the x4 and x6 comms are currently in use on the MMC 103. Can OEM custom screens be painlessly migrated to this unit with HMI Advanced? Any suggestions on what to replace the OP17-DPs with? Tim

SteveA Posts: 297 Rating: (41)	The PCU50 has been cancelled - see http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/25907766 The original PCU50.3 did not have any serial ports. Siemens just announced that they will include one serial port on all PCU50.3s - see http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/29351390 If you need another you'll need to add a PCI card (Siemens has one) or use a USB to RS232 adapter. Not familiar with the OP-17. There are a range of current operator panels from OP-08 to OP-15 - pick your size. OEM custom screens covers a lot of options. If it is a "wizard" screen, it may still work. Anything else (easymask, transline, pro-tools, wincc, HMI programming) will probably need to be re-done, but you might get lucky. PCU50's run WInXP now and don't officially support 16 bit Windows apps. HTH, SteveA

It looks as though Siemens is sticking true to form and making my selection easier by discontinuing any alternatives. When upgrading from an MMC103 to a PCU50.3 is there anything you can think of to watch out for? Any 'GOTCHA's that may bite me later? Tim

SteveA Posts: 297 Rating: (41)	Sorry, I've never had to migrate an MMC103 to a PCU50. I would think that the Siemensscreens would be compatible, but if you've added any custom apps or screens, those will need attention. SteveA
