WinCC7.1 using the Allen-Bradley Ethernet IP Channel

MrMC Regular Member Joined: 9/30/2009 Last visit: 11/18/2025 Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	I am trying to set up to run some tests using the new communications channel, Allen- Bradley Ethernet IP driver. I cannot get this to work. I am familar with both WinCC and Allen Bradley and it seems straight forward, but it will not communicate. I have a SLC 505, a PLC 5/80 and a ControlLogix. The interface to the ControlLogix states that it is connected, but it will not read the contents of the controller tag that I have defined. The SLC 505 and the PLC 5/80 connections never show connected. Has anyone been able to make this work?

I added the AB driver to tag management Set up a control logix connection. Specify the IP address and the path (which is 1,<slot_of_PLC>). Create a tag. I don't know the syntax for program tags but for controller tags the address is just the control logix tag name

Anyone know how to make this address populate properly? I''m going to continue testing and I'll post what I find for # of tag writes per second through this driver and through opc to kepware.

Bgood Advanced Member Joined: 3/12/2008 Last visit: 1/17/2025 Posts: 21 Rating: (0)	Here is the performance test on AB control logix driver vs kepware OPC: I set up a test system with 1000 pairs of tags. A trigger and an acknowledge. The PLC increments the trigger when acknowledge and trigger are equal. An I/O field was connected to each trigger tag and through a direct connection, the value gets written to the acknowledge tag on change creating a full round trip. With this system setup through OPC to Kepware server to the PLC I saw a maximum of 50 round trips per second. With the AB Controllogix driver I saw a maximum of 180- 220 tag round trips per second. Feel free to critique my test setup. All of this looks good, but unfortunatly my application uses structure tags which apparently are not supported on the AB driver
