Modify DB (Data Block) without having to download complete program

timoreardon Posts: 22 Rating: (2)	Hi, I'm currently using PCS7 v7.1 SP2 and I've come across a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I mainly use CFC charts to configure all the code, but sometimes I need to store numbers generated by CFC functions in a DB for use elsewhere or for displaying in WinCC. Trouble is (and I think it worked before I upgraded to SP2) if I make a change to one of my user DBs, there is no option to download those changes, the download icon and menu optionare greyed out. If the then try to "Compile and Download Objects" in the normal way, I then get an error in the download status that "Data block DB35 has changed. Download Complete Program" and the download fails. As you are probably aware, downloading the complete program requires the PLC to be in STOP which is far from ideal. I cannot for the life of me find out how to modify a DB without having to download the complete program and stopping the PLC. Am I missing something obvious, has something changed from SP1 to SP2 or am I just being thick!?!?!? Thanks Tim

Hi timoreardon, This is normal behavior for all PCS7 versions: changing a DB is like changing a parameter in an FB and requires a complete download. However, there is workaround and the workaround is to download just the DB. In the older versions of PCS7 (pre-V7.0?) it was possible to download a single block but this is no longer allowed. To overcome this limitaion you can copy/paste the DB from the offline block folder to the online block folder. After this step do a changes only CFC download. WARNING: copy/paste only just this DB and not any other block(s) since itcan lead to abnormal process behavior and/or PLC stop. Regards

In PCS7 project we are using also something non PCS7 - in multiproject we have S7 300 CPU. It is there for special independent use on some specific part of the plant. This S7 300 is programmed as S7 300 is programed - with the use of STL, FBD, which unfortunate is the same program as for modifying DB's. And result is, that I cannot modify FC or FB in S7 300 and download changes. From PCS7 V7.1 SP2 on, only entire download is now possible. But this entire download with STOP of CPU is extremely undesirable since S7 300 is there for monitoring some program all the time. Is there any possibility to unlock this download "feature" only for FC and FB, since for DB I already have some sort of solution. I know this is non PCS7 functionality, but PCS7 can be used in those plants only because also this S7 300 can be in the same project. It's a big drawback for us to use drag and drop functions from offline to online block folder. In meantime, for DB you can use DB PARAM program (C:\Program Files\SIEMENS\Common\S7UTP\s7utpapx.exe) which is without restrictions - for now ....

PackElend Posts: 36 Rating: (2)	hoi, I've just faced the same problem and that seems to be THE solution. But before I try that I want to double check, before I mees anything up. Step 1: - your are in the offline folder (see att.) - you edited the DB the way you like it - save it offline (on the PG/ES) - copy (Ctrl-C) the DB within the offline blocks folder step 2: - switch over to the online folder (see att.) - go into the online blocks folder, as seen in the att. - paste (ctrl-v)/overwrite the online DB with the modified DB step 3: - go into the CFC chart where that DB is used - do a changes only download - changes only compiling is not neccessary done thx Attachment SIMATIC Manager - online_offline - edited.jpg (1199 Downloads)

peter-offshore Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Hello dear, I am using PCS7 ver7.1 SP3. in this version i can go online with the Data Block which i want to change and he is asking me '' do you want to go offline/online with editing capablilties?'' if i changed there do i need to perform copy/ paste as well? in my plant it is impossible to stop the PLC, and i am always do a lot of changes which needs compile changes and download changes if i follow you procedure above of copy/ past then download chages only ( without compiling) what will happen later if i did another change and i want to compile and download does the option for compile changes only and download changes only will be available in this case? Thanks for your help

Jules Stohr - Sto... Posts: 173 Rating: (25)	Hello Peter You will still have the option to compile and download changes (if you changes are not so major that they will need a full compile anyway ). You can also try the procedure on a testsystem to see how the program will react on your changes. For the future I would suggest upgrading to PCS7 V8.1 and CPU410. With this version you can download changed FB or DB without stopping the CPU.
