Dear Sir I am using s7-315 2pn/dp , 2 IM-153-1 and 153-8 communication with profiibus , I want to try profibus communication 1.5mbps , problem is plc go to bus fault and system fault ,and now i set 1.87mbps then communication is ok but after 5 minute communication breack , i want to know what is problem, profibus rang is 4 to 5 meter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Hello, I have the same problem as this guy, my cable length is just 30 or 40 cm. Is that problematic? |

Hello ldir; There was a recent discussion on this issue recently: Bus fault in profibus network https://support.industry.siemens.com/tf/ww/en/posts/100984/ In one of the posts you will find a link to the official introduction of the so-called "1 meter rule" for Profibus networks in the Profibus International guides for Profibus-DP installations. Basically, the 1 meter rule officialises what expert Profibus network designers knew from experience, that a length of less than a meter of copper cable between 2 nodes will lead to reflexions on the line and introduce errors of data transmission. And no diagnostics are available in Profibus masters to detect that type of error, outside of oscilloscope analysis of the signal, which not everyone is capable of interpreting correctly (recent experiences have shown that I personally am quite deficient in that type of debugging). If you have less than a meter of cable between the nodes, you should thinkl of replacing you cable with one-meter (or more) lengths.
