How to enable a Job mailbox in area pointer

BokkieUB05 Posts: 9 Rating: (1)	Dear fellow Programmers, At the moment I'm programming a CPU S7 1214C with a HMI panel TP1500 basic PN I have to display a screen with a keyswitch that is connected to a input of de PLC. I know that I have to use in "connection", the "area pointer" and in here the "job mailbox" to send data from the PLC to the HMI. The job mailbox has 4 words and I know also that the 1st word is the type of message I have to send. In my case this is "No. 51" en words 2 - 4 are the parameters. I only need parameter 2 also and the number of the screen I wan to display with this is "4" I just can't figure out how to execute this. I added a new DB ("ADMIN_DB" I have called it) and typed a adress "Admin_LogOn" data type = WORD When I write this DB in my Job Mailbox in PLC Tags, I get a error that the the PLC tag has to be the same lenght as the area pointer. And from here on I can't figure out what to do. I put a printscreen of that error in a attachment Attachment area pointer.JPG (2613 Downloads)

0_Einstein Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 12/23/2025 Posts: 16325 Rating: (2520)	Let's assume ADMIN_DB = DB1 and your job mailbox tag is at offset 2. Then you can use absolute access with DB1.DBW2 to define the _starting_ memory address for that area pointer. In your ADMIN_DB, you can then assign each byte or word to an appropriate tag name. You can also set up an array of bytes, and access the bytes directly. Probably a few other methods. I've used both methods and like the array method better.

And how do you get DBW2, I understand that DBW is just the name withthe data type (this case a Word) to use as a example,but were do you write that '2' ? I actually suspect that that number is a beginning of a byte number like you would use for example:MW2 next is MW4 and sow on, MW3 is not possible because a Word is 2 bytes. But in a DB you can't choose the number. And how can you assign each byte or Word to a appropriate tag name in my Admin_DB ? It's only possible to enter a adress name with data type ina DB ? I attached a printscreen of my DB, to get a better picture. Please use My adress names, sow that I get a better picture also. Also, how can you, if you use array, acces the bytes directly ? Still, can''t configurate the Offset (is a grey area that column) I keep trying by myself but any help is always welcome and would be very mutch appreciated ! I have never worked with array before, so I still don'tunderstand it well. You say I have to get the offset to each byte, this mean that I have to program this. but the offset of "array 0" has to be 51 because thats the job number. and in"array 1"I have to get'4' because thats the number of the screen that has to be executed. In area pointer I usedabsolute acces because then Icouldgive a adress. IN symbolic It wasn't possible to adress a Word(are any2 bytesor 16bits)in thePLC tag. but again,now I stuck. In the example, you have shown, the DB14.DBW16 is used. What does the PLC writes to this tag? What tag's are other parameters of job mailbox written to?
