Hi all,

Does anybody have experience in successful setting up "Matrikon OPC Server for Modbus" to poll data from S7 1500 series PLC (1516F, to be precise)? PC with Matrikon is connected to PLC by Ethernet. From what I read, I need to use the MB_SERVER function in the PLC code and point to DB that works as holding registers. The registers (=DB that is then mapped into registers when MB_SERVER is called) are being filled with data by separate section of code.

In Matrikon I do not have many choices, basically IP address, TCP port and some others. What values do I have to assign to parameters in CONNECT part of MB_SERVER and how to configure Matrikon so that it will work? Do I also need to use the MB_CLIENT function somewhere and somehow? I have been unable to do it so far, all the time my signals in Matrikon are "bad, comm failure" or "bad, non-specific". However, I could get the @Connected status to blink on/off, not sure if that is a good sign?

I was trying with MB_CLIENT and failed just the same. That lead me to believe that Matrikon OPC software in this case is "OPC server", but "Modbus client" - it has to extract/read data from the PLC, which collects them and makes them available to read. So from this point of view my PLC is "Modbus server" and OPC program is "Modbus client", yet being the "server" in OPC structure, making this data available to other OPC "clients" (like Matrikon OPC Explorer). But I might be wrong anyway... None of the functions MB_CLIENT and MB_SERVER worked for me and I do not know if this is the parameter issue, some incorect assignments/usage, or simply these two (PLC as Modbus + Matrikon OPC Server for Modbus) cannot talk to each other and I need to use some other OPC application to get data from the S7 PLC. The point is that customer is insisting on using "Matrikon OPC Server for Modbus" and I need to kind of adapt to that.

The setup has changed a little. Now I still have the same S7 1516F PLC, but it is supposed to be connected to ET200M interface module (from "old" S7 family), with a couple of I/O modules and a CP341 RS232C module attached for communications to external system.

However, when setting up such configuration, I am receiving a message during compilation of hardware: 

If the DP master/IO controller is an S7-1500 device, CP 341 RS232C_1 cannot be operated as a  DP slave/IO device

Is it me doing something wrong, forgot about an obvious thing somewhere, or such configuration is simply forbidden and will never work?

Hello,

as was already somewhere sugested, this cfg isn't possible. CP34X is S7-300 HW component and can't be used as communication processor via bus with S7-1X00 systems.
