I would like to ask if there is a possibility of using an S7-1200 as RESTS client? I am sure that I can use it as a REST server (it has a webserver). The situation looks this way:

- I have a mobile robot with REST Server (with own API) and I want to communicate it with S7-1200, therefore I need a REST Client - is it possible to create on S7-1200 or it is only possible to create a server?

Hello,

I think for first you need know what interface and protocol is used, I expect ETH and over TCP/IP you can also inmplement commands/answers to/from Server. Via OUC I expect solution so you need program by yor own because this protocol isn't still implemented on Siemens, also I don't know about any library yet...

Hello Lukas,

I'm facing the same challenge. Except I have a S7-1500. I'm so disappointed that this particular robot manufacturer do not support any industrial protocol like Profinet, Ethercat or even Modbus. I have spent hours struggling with this REST API! Have you had any success yet?

 Perhaps the robot manufacture can use OPC UA, then you will also have an easy access to the S71500

Thank you!  This was very useful. I was able to modify these function blocks to suit my project.

Modification 1: I made Authorization code as additional input string #author. The authorization would else fill up too much of the data body, which in its string format is limited to 255 characters. In the FB code I inserted this just before the other header parameters (User-Agent etc.):

Strg_TO_Chars(Strg := CONCAT(IN1 := '$R$LAuthorization: Basic ', IN2 := #author)

Moification 2: The robot REST API use json format. The parameter "Content-Type" had to be changed (inside FB code) from "text/plain" to "application/json".

Do you have a copy of your modifications of the block? I would be interested in seeing how you setup the "body" commands.

Remember to figure out what kind of header subject your web server requires.
Use Postman to find out, that way i figured out my body structure.

I am investigating the same application. S71500 to MiR & MiR Fleet. I note the work you have done below and thank you for it. We have previously used Node Red as our interface for this application and the ability to now interface directly is a big help , so thank you. 

Using your block modifications we are still getting the status error 401, which is related to authorisation. Did you have to make any other modifications to solve the authorisation issue?
