Mart_Darona Posts: 7 Rating: (0)	Hi, I would like to know if there chance of damaging an IO card if i plug 24DC+ at the 1M terminal and use the DC-as input signal instead of the 24 volts. I have to do so because the Input i want to monitor are coming from an other card (other brand)and all the wiring is already done that way. Probably sourcing Card. i made the test on the Siemens Card and it work but i want to be sure the electronic will stand the change regards

It sounds like Mart_Darona wants to know if he can legitimately use them as sourcing inputs i.e. switch, pushbuttons etc connect the input to the common. I share the same reservation about connecting the power supplies - to the M on the CPU power supply connection and then connecting the + to the 1M on the input group. I'd also like to know for certain it was intended to be used this way. There are other posts that suggest that the S7-1200 manual show how to do this. The only example in the S7-1200 manual is one showing sinking connections. I've also searched for (IEC Type 1 Sink) since it seems contrary to the preceeding "Sink/Source" statement and the only search results returned point back to Siemens websites. Considering that its a generally accepted belief that connecting the polarity wrong on any electronic device could be a recipe for disaster, a little reassurance (i.e. documentation) would go a long way.

There is no example in manual and there isn't any principle schematics of internal opto couplers and output transistors, so one could understand how to connect properly.

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	Really nobody from Siemens doesn't know the answer? I need to connect NPN proximity switches on PLC. Will Siemens recognize warranty if I will burn inputs, because of poor manual? Or I have to contact my Siemens reseller to get the answer?

You have to connect 1M terminal of inputsto +24VDC, now the inputs become sourcing type, so they output +24V and you have to connect inputs to the negative pole to make them active.
