S7-1516 communication with Fanuc robots

Because of cost restrains I want to establish communication with a Fanuc robot using Ethernet TCP/IP protocol rather then Profinet. The Fanuc robot quipped with a Profinet communication card is a lot more expensive then the standard version that comes with TCP/IP. Would this be possible? I saw that the S7-1516 processor has the option of adding a communication processor that has Industrial Ethernet. I know that it comes standard with two Profinet communication ports, I am not sure if that can be changed so that one of the communication ports is using Ethernet TCP/IP or not. I am sure that I would have to use some communication functions in the project like TSEND_C, RCV_C, TCON, TDISCON, T_CONFIG but I want to make sure that it can actually be done. Did anyone try this kind of solution? Would the .gsd file normally used for the Profinet/Profibus communication be useful ?

What you ask should be possible. Not to say that it will be easy - and not that I say I know how. How well has Fanuc documented their side? Perhaps search a little more on the web to see if there are more hints - keep in mind a solution for the S7-1200 is also viable for you. The GSD or GSDML file will not help you. You will not have a "Fanuc device" in your hardware/network configuration. The only concern would be the IP address. Good luck.

Ruxandra Popescu Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	I will check to make sure, but I think I will use TCP/IP. If the Fanuc robots don't support that then I think the only other option would be Profinet. Still digging in to the solution, even if it requires a bit of work, as long as it would be something possible then I might try to do it.
