I would suggest you get in touch with Schildknecht who have been involved withWirelss Profibus modems and applications for a long time, explain you application requirments to them and ask them for their recommendedDataeagle solution. Scalance is more flexible, cheaper and has much more options.Additionally get the option of having aintegrated solution from one supplier Siemens (so no excusess). Krish

Would be usefull for programming, being few meters from cabinet with PLC, for example in more comfortable (ex.quiet) place than working plant. Another adventure is that it is independent from WiFi, so hopefully not affect programmed network. For example Belkin, IOGear, D-Link and many others producers selling it just from 50€. I hope that with more than 2 billion legacy wired USB connections in the world price will goes down soon. I am not sure if this will be wishfull thinking, but it is interesting to know whether it works and how. What do you think ? cheers, Zee

The solution I would advice is to add a Profinet IO Controller somewhere in your network (for example a CP343-1 Lean). Then you can connect a Scalance W Access Point to this card via Ethernet. On the crane side you can use a IWLAN/PB Link PN IO to connect up to 8 Profibus devices.And this without having to change the profibus speed you use today.

This is an old project I am aware that I should change some firmware on CPU-s (316-2DP) to insert a Lean module, also I will need to change programand hardware configuration and I am trying to find a solution withot changing anything in PLC - so Dataeagle is quite good choice. On the other way Scalance isSiemens andit seems to me to be more reliable. The crane is moving in rows, soit would be nice to have more antennas on one access point and maybe a good trick would be also Rcoax cable, many more options than Dataeagle, but the problem of changing PLC programs. So I got an idea andI would like if somebody tells about his opinion - and that is: IBH Link for profibus to ethernet converter and then Scalance for wireless? Or is it possible to use IWLAN/PB Link PN IO on both sides?

The maximum Distance as you said 100m. very good. I want to ask that what would be the radiation range.i mean Straigh line of sight communication or omnidirectional.

I would like to connect a moving crane to profibus. Hi, Sorry, Siemens doesn't have any option for Wireless communication in the Profibus. But, if you want to go for more distance in the Profibus Network it is possible to use OSM. OSM (optical switch module) is to convert the profibus network to Fiber optic. In fiber optic cable you can go for more Kilo meters.
