These are not the cases that I have tested personally, but I share some points to consider before your tests:

1. As far as I remember , In newer version of TIA Portal(like V13),it is possible to upload blocks and hardware configuration of stations (not all types) that were developed by STEP 7 V5.5. For a list of possibilities, read more HERE. Some certain capabilities of STEP 7 have not been implemented in TIA Portal till now and you can find a list in SIOS if you search (and be extremely  patient).
   
   
2. Different versions of STEP 7 include, different hardware database and improved functions.I think it is possible to upload a lean project with  STEP 7 V5.4 based on  components supported by it even it is implemented in STEP 7 V5.5. Again, I have not tried this and if you have the chance to test please update your result.
