Overheating Field PG

JoeGrib Posts: 26 Rating: (1)	I am programming with a SIMATIC Field PG M3 (SE7715 - 1DD22 - OCE3). When fully-charged and plugged-in, there are no problems. When I use the computer on battery power it heats up dramatically. (Battery is the hottest point but even the keyboard is hot). After an hour or so, depending on how much I've used the computer (1 hour max.) the computer begins to slow down. If I plug it back in to re-charge, the computer continues to heat up. In order to re-charge, I turn off the computer and plug it in and allow it to charge while off. It's relatively new (just over a year old) and this started last week. Any suggestions? Could this be a hardware issue? This is a work laptop shared by a couple of programmers, any suggestions on how we could take better care of it? The hard drive is more or less full (47GB of 50GB are full), would saving files on an external HD be any help? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I think you should also contact local Siemens Person for this issue since it is only one year old. Ofcourse, we cannot predict exect reason for heating up without looking into it. Since it is a field PG and looking into the cost of it, you must ensure it works smoothly without heating up too-much.

Regards, Vijay Depending from powersaving setting, the CPU consumption (frequency) will be reduced if battery is online. So, CPU becomes less warm, cooling fan is only for CPU, result: cooling fan runs less because CPU heat is less.

To Amit_86: I will contact our local rep… Good thinking. To SolutionFinder and N. Vijay: The fan did run while on battery power, but I didn’t compare it to how often it was on while using Main Power. I’ll look out for it in the future. To IBN-service: I was not able to install the new version of the field PG panel, the instructions were in German. Is my computer, (SIMATIC Field PG M3 SE7715 - 1DD22 - OCE3)compatible? I would like to monitor and manage power usage, so any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks to everyone.

(The computer is used almost every day.) To increase battery life - don't use PG continuous on Power. Charge full, use on battery for some duration, then again take on Power - so you have to ensure minimum timing for mains power connected and use few hours on battery
	I dont Like people driving Fast, thats the reason I overtake them ;)
