I'm looking at trying to create a block that would allow me to dynamically select one of 24 different arrays of values based upon which item is selected on the HMI. I am using a TP1500 and S7-315 and using TIA 13 U4.

I have my selection decided by an INT that is set by pressing a particular button on the HMI, and this part works.

I am wondering if there is a way to easily select the array dynamically based upon which INT is set where the INT number = Array number. This would then copy the respective arrays values into the output array so that could be used elsewhere. Even a case structure would probably do.

At the moment my setupisto use the == statement to check the INT tag with a constant (i.e. INT is compared with 1 on the first network, then its compared with 2 on the second and so forth). Then once that is true I would tell the output (which is an array of the same number of elements) to = the selected array, but I cannot seem to figure out how to directly = 1 array to the other without breaking it down into its individual elements.

I know how I would do it in C++ or Labview, but i'm unsure how to do it (or even if I can do it) in LAD.

On a semi side note, is there a way to directly = 1 number with another, i'm having to use an Add block to do it at the moment an simple do current + 0 = new number to directly set the value when needed. i.e. for when changing values of speed to a new value after having selected 1 of a few different speeds. Or even just to assign new values such as value = 300.

Arrays, DB and pointers

For LAD,You may find a way but I think that should not be very concise like what you can achieve in SCL.

Yes, I think using SCL might be the way forward (I had a look at that thread before posting), so I'm going to have to learn SCL but it doesn't look too dissimilar to C++/SQF.

This is my first project so I've had to pretty much learn it as I've been going along (I'm working on a Sheet Leveller), but I've been testing individual things on my S7 1200 Starter kit as well as through the simulator.

What would you say had the best functionality of the different languages as I've done the rest of it in LAD and this will be the only place where i've used SCL. Is SCL a more comprehensive language than LAD?

I had a look at the recipes, but that solution was rejected on looks, as they had a particular look they wanted, as I was unable to figure out how to do recipes outside of the recipe object on the HMI so that I could match the look (a large array essentially made up of individual I/O boxes each assigned an array element), which I managed to get to work fine, but like I said it was rejected.

hdh, you left out Siemens' favorite : FBD which seems to run by an odd set of rules. Perhaps I am affected by decades of using LADder logic.

Is there no way of implementing something like the following in SCL as I can't seem to figure it out, I think it'll be a more efficent way of doing it and its the way i'd do it in SQF/C++/Labview:

Where _x is the magic variable which takes value of the element of the array corresponding to the iteration of the for loop. The array is made up of all the other arrays memory location or names.

I think it working would also depend on whether it can use the location call from the _x variable.

At the moment I have ended up using a case structure to link it up with each of the respective arrays which isn't as flexible should I wish to add more later on. (a globally stored constant with all the names would be much better in combination with the method I've suggested).
