How do I make a (working) connection between PLC & HMI panel

xmnj Gold Member Joined: 9/30/2016 Last visit: 8/15/2024 Posts: 914 Rating: (6)	I had some troubles getting the IP address in the project into the PLC - but I finally succeeded in getting the IP address set to .11 so that is nice. But for some reason I cannot get the HMI panel connected to the project. Please see attached screenshots. The connection is red when online and I tried deleting it and reconnecting it - but it changes nothing. How do I make a correct and functioning connection between the PLC and the HMI panel (.IP addresses .11 and .14) ? Attachment Connection to HMI panel.zip (994 Downloads)

I have a similar connection in two other - nearly identical - projects and they does not seem to cause any problems ? How can you be sure I don't need that connection - it must be useful for something (just don't want to find out I am missing it when I commission the SW (download into the actual controller)? Normaly this interconnections used with PROFINET networks , and mandatory for PROFINET IO IRT. With Portinterconnection you can use such features like IP/Name Assignment of the devices from then Controller. But for a Panel-PLC connection you sjould need it only if the Panel is configured as io-device to the PLC. Which settings you use in the Panel ? (PN/IE or Ethernet) If you use PN/IE have you check that the Name and IP of the Panel is the same like the one in the projectconfiguration? Are the connected ports physicali the same like the projectconfiguration? You should also be check which Diagnostic messages are present in chase of the red line.Something like "Wrong Partner port"? The panel IS connected via profinet with its own IP address. (See offline screenshot) I don't THINK the panel is configured as an I/O device (how/where do I check that ?) but the system can be operated from it - including setting analog signals to a manual value - from the panel. Even though the small plant CAN be controlled for the local panel it is supposed to be monitored and controlles with many other systems from a CCR. Right now I don't have a physical panel. I am using the simulation function in TIA to verify the functionality of the PLC code. I guess I can see the IP A of the physical panel by searching for compatible devices with the "go online" function in TIA - but how do I check the name (to be the same as in the project) AS I am simulating the panel right oicking the wrong port on the panel is not likely to be causing my problems - but I will try to remember when I move to the actual plant. (See offline screenshot) I am TOO well aware that this is basic but HOW/WHERE do I find the diagnostic messages for the panel to see if "Wrong Partner port" or similar is listed - is it when I go online ? ChristophD Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 5/12/2006 Last visit: 11/6/2024 Posts: 22432 Rating: (3029)	Hi, you can check if portinterconnection is used if you open the topology view and check the properties of the ports on the device. Is a green line between devices then you have configure a portinterconnection. If the Panel is I/O Device you can check in the properties of the Panel Ethernet interface under "Operation mode". And with Simulation of the Panel you will always get a topology Error, this is a normal behavior of the Panel Simulation. And check the PG/PC Settings in Windows Control Panel. For a simulated Panel with a real PLC the S7ONLINE point must be configured with the NetworkCard which is connected with the PLC. For the Diagnostic Messages: Please check Online&Diagnostics" on the PLC because here the messages displayed. Detailed informations are in the diagnostic buffer of the PLC. Regards Christoph
