Now each CPU has bee programmed with a specific version, and this version is required to successfully upload the software from the CPU, else we have to go through a compatibility mode workaround and so and so.....

Some versions like V11 has a migration tool from S7-200 to S7-1200, but the later versions don't have.

This is really hard to follow. It takes a considerable time which should be directed to project execution. 

Let's try not to be so sceptic right now, because the whole idea of integrated automation software is great.

In my opinion, this are just salesman argument.

Step7 classic has same or even more "integrated automation" possibilities than TIA.

And this "Portal" construction is very useless and slow.

The "Totally integrated Automation" is done already years ago, that is absolut nothing new in TIA.
But the child need a name.

Don't jump into the salesman trap!

Based on previous experiences with Siemens software and their past history, I will not be holding my breath that this will in any way fix the issues that I (and others) ar currently experiencing.

The whole portal concept is flawed, and this is very much a case of "throwing good money after bad".

Engineers where I work do not call it Poortool without good reason.

If I read empty slogans like "increased productivity, reduced time to market" blabla...
it seems that S. use more time & money for marketing strategy than for engineers and a real application customer feedback.

This guys who are talking about "Industrie 4.0" will not recognize a SIMATIC PLC if it is bouncing in front of them.

Also Step7 Needs some time to grown, the first usable release was v3.x...
But that was a complete new design, the difference to S5 was global, as hard- and software was all complete new.

NOW, it seems that all experience from Step 7 was thrown away and all "birth defects" must be done again.
How Long is "TIA" on market? More than 6 years, I think so. Bad example for "reduced time to market"

So, There will be one more Virtual Machine.
