MMC has low cost as flash eeprom s7-400, but s7-400 can work without external load memory card, s7-400 has more advanced means of communication, a better operating system. SFB Ar send and sfb sending message, 4 accumulator in CPU, 12mbod K-bus and MPI, multiprocessor (up 4 in rack), support hot insert\|remove (OB83)

If you run out of local memory (reach maximum nesting depth) in S7 300, your only chance is to alter program infrastructure, to optimize it. With S7 400, it's easier to adjust memory settings. (Last week, I ran out of memory on a S7 400, when adding more code to an old program. If the logic had been an S7 300, it would have taken quite some time to rewrite the code, to use less resources. But now as the logic was S7 400, I simply increased local memory for priority 1).

Would recommend this for most applications. The S7-400 series is more powerful and used for a much larger system, it is used in crucial environments, for example you can hot swap cards etc. The S7-400 can be an expensive overkill if used unnecessary.
