Communication between S7-400 and S7-300

Kramps Posts: 66 Rating: (2)	Hi, I would like to establish a communication between a S7-400 Rack (mainly composed of a CPU 416-3DP and CP443-1) and a S7-300 (whom configuration i don't exactly know as it's a CPU used by our client). I use STEP7 v5.4 I have to send at maximum let say 100 real from the S7-300 to the S7-400 (no communication needed ont the other side). I suggest to simply use "Global data" function of STEP7. My question is : Does "Global data" only work with MPI Network ? If Industrial Ethernet can't be used for "Global Data", where can I find documentations about how to program the communication (using SFBs or SFCs I suppose) ? Kramps Posts: 66 Rating: (2)	Ok, this is helpful, thanks ! Do we know the name of the protocol used for this Industrial/ethernet communication (xxx over on TCP/IP I suppose) ? Just for being curious, is it possible to established a such communication via Profibus without using a DP/DP coupler ?

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hi Kramps, if you have 100 Real values you have 400 Byte of Data. This is far to much for 1 Request for PUT / GET, besides Ind. Ethernet if you have only S7-400 Systems. The S7-300 System does only support about 180 Bytes in one request. As we do not know what HW you have on both systems I would even recommend to check if you can do Send / Receive on ISO on TCP Protocol. This Protocol can easyly handle the amount of data and is quite fast and secure. This is just a recommendation. Best regards J_Bell
