DI Wire Break Issue

jingzhang Regular Member Joined: 3/13/2013 Last visit: 12/29/2025 Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	We connect a normally closed contact (EMO) to 6ES7321-7BH01-0AB0, and detect the wire break alarm. It doesn't show the wire break alarm when we take out the resistor only, but when we press the EMO (the contact become ope) leave the resistor remove at the same time, the wire break alarm come out. Does it mean if we want to detect resistor break, the contact should be normally open?

During testing, we take out the resistor, but cannot detect wire break alarm unless we press the EMO which the contact become open, and I can receive the wire break alarm. The testing purpose is to figure out that whether resistor taking out means wire break. I wonder thatis itbecuse my EMO contact is normally close. Hope you can understand my concern, thanks.

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	Did you installed resistor near "field" contact or you installed in near DI module? You should do the first. Actually you need resistor to distinguish "open" state from "wire break". In open state you still have chain via resistor (chain via contact is broken), current flow possible, in wire break state chain is broken, no current flow possible. Next - there is absolutely no difference in detecting wire break with NC and NO contacts. Both produce R=infinity when wire break occurs irrelevant to contact state. Next - how do you define wire-break? Have you enabled diagnostic interrupt in HW Konfig? Have you enabled wire break detection in HW Konfig? Can you upload wiring scheme and diagnostic buffer here?

I do enable wire break detection in HW Konfig, and I know what's your meaning now. The resistor and the contact is to be treated as whole circuit, wire break is whole circuit is broken, is that right?

The system measures the small current through the resistor when input not active. In case of wiraebreak or defect resistor there will be no current and though a wirebreak alarm. Regards, Marcjan
