As per the COM 265 installation Guidelines :

Software prerequisites: 
The COM 265 V1.5 runs independently from STEP5. For more details please read the Product Information. 

Installation:

• Copy the file COM265_v15_(x).exe to any directory of your choice. e.g. C:\Temp. Now start the file to extract its contents. As target for the extraction of the files please specify the same folder C:\Temp. Two new directories will now be created (Disk1 and Disk2). Now copy the contents of the two directories on two diskettes and label them accordingly. 
• The actual installation of the COM265 is done from Disk1. The procedure is described in the Product Information bulletin.
• The Product Information contains a description of the adaptations to the CONFIG.SYS file. Unfortunately the sequence is incorrect for Windows95. The correct sequence is:
  device=c:\windows\himem.sys /testmem:off 
  device=c:\windows\emm386.exe ram i=B000-B7FF i=D000-EFFF frame=E000 dos=high,umb 
  numlock=off
  Shell=c:\windows\command.com c:\windows /p /e:2048
  Country=049,850, c:\windows\command\country.sys devicehigh=c:\windows\command\ansi.sys

Note:

• In the case of PGs or PCs with 200 MHz  and better microprocessors, the Dongle/Decoder is sometimes not identified. In such cases a remedy may be to  deactivate the Cache in the BIOS of your PG or PC.

Hello gregory245

It can be installed in Windows-XP but it works only for Offline Editing.

The Software is compatible upto WIndows 95 as per the documentation, but frankly Even after trying hard, I could not get it Online or Read COM265 EPROM from even Win 95.

However in Pure DOS ( Not even Virtual Machine ) , it worked without a hitch. Thankfully, I had an old DOS PG available.
