Can Variant Pointer in S7-1200 f/w 4.1 be used to move data between dissimilar data types, e.g. 16bit UDT and 16bit Word? If not, is there other simple way for such dissimilar datatype exchange?

For example, can VariantGet, VariantPut instructions in S7-1200 be used for that?

If so, please provide workable example.

Hi.

The SCL instruction POKE_BLK will already do what you need. Just make sure that the source and destination DBs are not optimized. The POKE_BLK does not worry about what is copied over. Even mixed data types will not be a problem.

POKE_BLK(AREA_SRC:= <Operand>,

         DBNUMBER_SRC:= <Operand>,

         BYTEOFFSET_SRC:= <Operand>,

         AREA_DEST:= <Operand>,

         DBNUMBER_DEST:= <Operand>,

         BYTEOFFSET_DEST:= <Operand>,

         COUNT:= <Operand>)

Combine that with the answer by eisenpferdreiter.

Also know that the POKE_BLK command will do what you need -
copy "bit-by-bit" without being worried about the datatype.
