I have a 3-axis Vertical Turning Mill with 840D control system at my office. There are 2 I/R modules connected. The I/R1 is connected to X,Z, C and the main spindle, while I/R2 is supplying the turning spindle. Yesterday, Alarm 300200: "Drive bus hardware fault" was flashing on the HMI, prior to which 611D drive fault came and there was loud poping from the drive panel. We have switched off the main incoming power and opened the panel. There was a light burning smell,when we opened the panel. While switching ON after a while, it was found that I/R2 is not working (there are no LED indication on the module and 0V at DC link).

Removed and put back all ribbon cables from drive and cables coming from NCU. I dont have ribbon cable spares to replace.

Is the fault arises because I/R2 is not working or ribbon cable is having problem?

Is the drive bus, the one which connects simodrive to LT modules or the one which connects NCU to other moudles?

Taking pictures of your whole drive system, with power on if possible. post here , I will told you what is wrong. and it is better picturing HMI, with alarms ,

But as your described power supply IR2 may be the root cause.

write down IR1 and IR2 Siemens part#, such as 6SN1145-1AB02-0AA1 OR 6SN1112-XXXXX

Check the IR2 & spindle drive power LT module with multi-meter for any short circuit in power devices. From the fault description it is clear that something is short & has failed. So chances are either IR module or spindle drive motor LT modules must have failed which you could easily found out by testing it with multi-meter. Use Diode test from multi-meter & check the resistance between input & out put terminal, note down the resistance. Reverse the probe polarity & check the same points. In both conditions if you are getting same or low resistance value, it means power device is defective.
