I am very confused about dpdp coupler and repeater, what's different between it according application?

I need to know basic consapt about both.

Please explain little if you may...

DP/DP Coupler and Repeater:

DP/DP coupler: has two DP slave ports which can be configured with different address.

The application for this is to make the data exchange with two masters.

Repeater: works as a physical device to enhance the Profibus signal in case of long distance application.

It is not a DP slave and don't need the address.

I have used both in a network where we had to transport the DP signal far from the PLC if about 130 meters. We had to guarantee the speed of transmission and the reliability so, instead of downgrading the speed we had to use a repeater who technically amplifies the profibus signal, it is just an electronic circuit and you don't have to configure it in your hardware configuration.

The DP coupler is not an amplifier and acts as "interface" between two profibus worlds allowing the exchange of data (words or DBs but this last one is more complex) between the two nets. You have to insert it in your hardware configuration and see it as slave; this device has two profibus nodes which can be different accordingly to the respective networks.

They both are really simple simple to use, I needed more or less 1 hour to make them working the first time I used them and I am not a TON god like a couple of users here...

I understand about repeater that we have to use it for long distance, (for strength of signals)without hardware configuration.

But why dpdp coupler?
