Can anyone tell me and better yet, point me to the Siemens documentation that explains why line 21 gives an invalid data type when compiled?  I know if I change Dev from an INT to a WORD or DWORD the code compiles.  I just can not find anything that explains why INT does not work.

Use symbolic addressing, put a name to your DB (like MyDB) and to the array (Like MyArray) then

dav:= MyDB.MyArray[n];

Update:

You don't need show nothing, look to your syntax error in line 6:

6      END_VAR789

Also you need make that conversion WORD_TO_INT(...).

Good eye  so multiple problems.

I don't know where the 789 on line 6 came from when I pasted this here.  That clearly isn't in my code.  If it was, the compiler wouldn't even make it to line 21.
 

DB120 only has integer declarations in it.  I know I can do the WORD_TO_INT if I want to keep the integer declaration.

But why can I not directly write to an integer?  I thought maybe someone here in the forum would have the answer.  I know I can get around it, but that isn't my question.

sry but I don't understand what problem you still have. Your code can compile ok but with that conversion WORD_TO_INT.
