How to write $ in a variable?

_s="$aa_iw[z1]"

msg(_s)

Leads to an error.

I think you need to repeat the $. I had a problem with " and had to add an extra " so it was something like: " ""Text"" go"  which showed "Text" go than.

or is it like >>$varname like in messages?

I tried it

msg("$aa_iw[z1]") 

msg("$$aa_iw[z1]")

msg(""$"aa_iw[z1]")

msg("'$'aa_iw[z1]")

If your purpose is to display the actual value of Z1 axis in a message, the DEF STRING is not ok for me, you have to use REAL instead. Second thing, any instruction enclosed between " " will be displayed as a comment, not as a variable.

Here an example for you :

def real _s

msg("$aa_iw[z1]") --->  in message i get exactly this text --> $aa_iw[z1]

msg(<<$aa_iw[z1]) --> in message I get the actual value of z1 axis

???

msg("$") displays the text "No (more) alarm(s) present" too !

In the picture you posted there is a little red arrow at the left of the message. This means that there are more messages/alarm present. If you did not set the "Rotate" machine data you have to check which one in Diagnostics in Alarm or Message pages.

See the attached picture, that is what happen in my 840D sl if I write your part program code (I have Operate not Hmi Advanced).

There are no other messages on the machine

does it work ?
