I am new to modbus protocol of Siemens. I really need help from the experts. Scenario: I have 10units of RS485 power meter and it is needed to communicate to SCADA Wincc 7.4 Questions: 1) Is it possible to communicate directly to SCADA? How? :( 2) Is there any additional software or hardware needed to make the integration work? Thank you so much Regards, Jhing ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |

Hello jhing; The last version of WinCC that supported serial channels (for Modbus RTU) qwas version 5, if I remember well. For more modern versions, you have a few choices: - connecting your Modbus RTU slaves to a PLC acting as a Modbus RTU master, and linking this PLC to WinCC, using an available communication channel. This can easily be done with a small S7-1200 CPU, for example. - purchasing an external Modbus channel license for WinCC, from Allmendinger. This allows you to connect a number of Modbus RTU slaves directly to your WinCC PC. - using the integrated WinCC OPC channel to connect to an OPC server reading and writing data to your modbus RTU sloaves. You must then search for and purchase a Modbus RTU server that can connect to your slaves.
