Hi All, I have a winding application that's causing me problems. I have a contact roller, motor with encoder and a roller with a loadcell. I'm struggling to find the best control method. I'm trying to wind with a constant tension - the machine operator can change the tension setpoint on an HMI and I am communicating with the G120 over Profinet. Could someone suggest the best/most likely method to work nicely. Currently I have the loadcell wired to the PLC and the drive is in torque control mode, in the PLC I have a PID controller that I am using to calculate a torque setpoint which is sent to the drive over profinet however this isn't a great solution, if the web breaks the roller accelerates to a dangerous speed and the overall control isn't great, ideally id like to wire the loadcell back into the drive and have the drive do all the work itself - I can then just send the torque setpoint to the drive from the HMI without the PLC having to PID it first.

Please could someone let me know which control method I should be using for best results given the hardware I currently have ?

i think best control method is drive in speed control with speed reference =1,1xline speed and torqe limit coming from load cell pid.

 I will give this a try;

1. Wire loadcell back into drive
2. Setup drive in speed mode @ 1.1 x Line Speed
3. Setup PID PV as loadcell value
4. Send PID SP from PLC over ProfiNET
5. Use PID CV as Speed Additive Setpoint ??? OR PID CV as Torque Limit ???
