jimmy5 Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	I am having issues communicating with a 318-DP-2 PLC (currently has SF red and BUS2F flashing red). I would like to reset this if possible, but can't find the procedure for this model. Can this be done?

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/14/2026 Posts: 12481 Rating: (2722)	Hello jimmy; In my experience using the front switch on your CPU (and CPUs of this family) will have no effect on active diagnostic LEDs. The only action you can take to remove these LEDs is to correct the communication fault. BF indicates a Bus Fault, meaning a Profibus or Profinet node is not responding. SF indicates a System Fault, which could be a hardware or software problem. In combination with a BF, it generally means that your program is trying to read/write to a missing Profibus/Profinet node. The easiest way to identify problems on your CPU is to open the diagnostic buffer on your CPU and examine the messages logged there. You should use the Save As.. button in the diagnostic buffer screen to transfer all messages to a text file that you can share with us (as an attachment) if you would like us to look the information. jimmy5 Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Right now, I can't communicate with the CPU to do anything, so I wanted to reset the unit to 'factory' and hope to make things work. One thing I'm working at is installing Simatic Manager on a clean computer. For some reason, I can't get PG/PC interface to release profibus/usb/local adapter as <active>. Even though the MPI USB adapter LED does blink twice trying to do something with my PG/PC settings on the X1 DP/MPI port, I'm stuck with the 'MPI address too high...' error. I'm hoping the SF/BUS2F leds are related, I have a solid green run light. There's nothing on the X2 DP port to talk to right now.

jimmy5 Posts: 35 Rating: (0)	Ultimately, my problem was with the PG/PC settings. For whatever reason, PROFIBUS was defaulted as <active>, and there was no way to get it to use MPI. So I switched the cable to the X2/DP comm port on the PLC, set baud rate to 1.5M, and all was good to connect with Simatic Manager. [snip]
