Communication problems between OPC Server and remote OPC client.

Hello everybody.
Problem description:
I’m using following hardware and software:
Hardware:
SIMATIC MICROBOX PC (industrial PC) with OPCServer.
PC where OPC client is running.

Software:
Industrial PC: windows XP Embedded SP2 , NETFramework 1.1 , SIMATIC NET (OPC SERVER)

PC : Windows XP SP3 ; VB application (using Netframework 3.5) made in VS2008.

Two computers are in local network (connected by switch) , working in the same Workgroup.

DCOM configuration was done according to SIMATICNET specification. Communication between OPC server and remote OPC client (for tests I used OPC Scout) was tested. So I’m sure the DCOM configuration is OK on both computers.

When I’m using VB application with function GetOPCServers I get the following massages in MsgBox:

Error H_RESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.
ErrNr. -2147467259
Source: Interop.OPCSiemensDAAutomation.

Application also generates a file (SOPCDAAUTO_ERR) where there can be read following messages:

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello adam_son, well... this is not really easy to answer but I guess there are two points to check for this problem. 1. The version of the SIMATIC NET you use, as you mentioned you use the VS 2008, this requires, as it is being tested, the Edition 2008 of SIMATIC NET, do you use this version? 2. The message you receive by windows shows that the application you are about to use does not have sufficient rights to do the requested job. To check the DCOM configuration I would recommend the use of: OPC Foundation white paper This document shows you maybe some settings you did not try yet. (At least I hope so) Best regards J_Bell

adam_son Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Thank you for reply. On Simatic Microbox PC is installed SIMATICNET PC/Software Edition 2006. But I don't understand what relation it has with VS2008? The VB application that is made is running on remote PC as OPC client. About DCOM settings: I found out in some SIMATIC NET specification that if computers works in a workgroup there can notbe made any authentication. So it means that in DCOM settings authenticantion level should be set to NONE on both sides. Is it true?
