i'm wanting to connect a WinCC application to PLCSim on a different computer via an ethernet connection, both computers are connected to the same network, subnet and workgoup.

PLCSim computer, has step7 and PLCSim installed with the step7 application successfully running with the simulator.

WinCC computer, has WinCC installed with a working application using the TCP/IP driver to normally communicate to a S7-400 (Simulating PLC)

I would be grateful for any information on the correct setup; a walkthrough, step be step or working example application would be great.

As WinCC is happy to comunicate to PLCSim on the same computer, can Step7 be on a different machine and communicate to the simulator over the network?

If you want to install PLCSim you have to install S7 first. So PLCSim without Step7 is not possible.

I do not know what your goal is, but maybe this helps:

If you download your program to PLCSim you can save your PLCSim project to a file. You can copy this file to the second PC and start the program there. (you need Step7 and PLCSim installed on both PC's, but I do not think you have to have licenses on both computers).

The physical PLC (rack, processor etc) has been send to the panel manufactures’ for installation. Luckily we have another similar project coming up,which we can borrow the PLC from to test this project. However it would still be nice to know…I’m now; un-urgently looking into NetToPLCSim, hasanyone had any experience with this software?

The goal is to be able to test the S7-400PLCsoftwarewith the WinCC application without the need of a PLC and without installing our Siemens programming software onto a WinCC server which belongs to our end client. I’m reluctant to install any additional software/licenses onto the client’s servers as I would like to keep them (clean) as I would be installing them on site.
