daad Gold Member Joined: 10/31/2011 Last visit: 4/8/2025 Posts: 400 Rating: (5)	Dear Sir, I want to communicate wincc for fetch data modbus TCP gateway but in wincc the configuration i have to select address area(4x holding register / %MW or 3x input registers /%IW or 6x Extended memory). My device sends data at holding register like 40001 so how access that data in wincc. When i select holding register with given address it shows address error. Regards

dchartier Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 12/24/2025 Posts: 12472 Rating: (2722)	Hello m. shoaib khatana; Please show us a screencapture of the error. 4x is the start address ofModbus Holding Registers,40001 is simply Offset 1 of the holding registers, so there is no cause for warnings there. You are asking access to register 400001. That is considered an "extended address", and I do not think WinCC supports them. This is not a valid Modbus address (one digit too long) in aWinCC application Try address 40001. See if it removes the error. For more details on Modbus addressing ranges, have a look at our friend smiffy’s presentation . Modbus General Description Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

In both this last jpg and in the after_online picture you post earlier, you have an error. "Device not connected" appears in your simulator program, "Quality: BAD" is shownin WinCC Online. Do you have a slave actually connected to your system? What address (Modbus RTU)does it have? Your simulator shows address 1 for the slave. Are you using your Modbus/TCP to Modbus RTU gateway? Have you configured the IP address for the gateway and included it in the WinCC application? Have you setup the gateway to connect to a Modbus slave with address 1, from which you want to read register 4xxxx01? Please show us the channel configuration pages for the Modbus/TCP channel in WinCC. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier

nmnogueira Bronze Member Joined: 3/15/2010 Last visit: 9/26/2025 Posts: 137 Rating: (10)	Check if the address exists in the target device. Depending on the target device, you may have to add 1 to the address, so if the target address is "1", you may have to configure it in WinCC as "400002"
