A gsd file is necessary when you want to insert a Profibus-DP slave in a Profibus-DP master's configuration. It contains all the required information for the master to exchange data with the slave.

A S7-1200 CPU cannot by itself act as a Profibus-DP slave. To do so you must add a CM 1242-5 on the s7-1200 rack, and this CM 1242-5 can be configured as a Profibus-DP slave. This is why Stefano (STE39) proposed the gsd file for the CM module in his earlier post.

To resume: there is no such thing as a gsd file for the :6ES7212-1BE40-0XB0. There is one for the CM 1242-5 acting as a Profibus slave.

If you think you needed a gsd file for another purpose, please explain so we may provide more information.

We want to communicate to S7-1200  6ES7212-1BE40-0XB0 from GE-IP RX-3i PLC through profinet communication . In RX-3i we are using Profinet scanner IC695PNC001 in redundant configuration along with Versamax IC200PNS001 for IO module drops.Kindly send us the GSD file inorder to check whether we can able to communicate to abovee S7-1200 through profinet                                     Regards,

Kindly let me know  do you have any idea whether is it possible to communicate between GE RX-3i to S7-1200 through profinet. Other than profinet, do the above mentioned model Siemens S7-1200 supports any other protocols like Modbus etc. Please confirm.

you can use some other protocols, like Modnus, TCP/IP, UDP.

Check the tecnical data of the S7-1200 PLC.

If the GE RX support Profinet IO then you can configure the S7-1200 in io-device mode and generate a GSDML file which you can use in the configuration of the GE to communicate with the S7.
