connection to multiple PLC with java s7 beans API from pc

witchIT Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi experts, I try to connect to multiple PLCs with the java S7 beans API from a PC. my setup: PC with java application (integrated in eclipse framework) using S7 beans API trying to read and write datablocks PLC1 connected to PC java appl. PLC2 connected to PC java appl. As long as both PLC connections work properly all is fine :-) If there is only a single connection to one of the PLCs it works fine :-) If one PLC is not availabe however, there are error messages from the other PLC as well!! i.e. if one connection dies it pulls down the other one this is the error for the non existing PLC: Error: [S7_CP_145.239.104.68gmx[145.239.104.68gmx:80]] propertyChange: Table of user rights not available!!! this is the piggyback error induced to the existing PLC: Error: [S7_CP_145.239.105.229[145.239.105.229:80]] propertyChange: Table of user rights not available!!! It looks like siemens s7 api mixes up both connections and is not able to distinguish correct. A possible reason for that could be that S7API has an Api wide lock object which is unique (same for all connections; singleton) Any ideas? Thx witchIT

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear witchIT, I am sorry but if you work according to the manual you should see that you have real problems to be connected to two PLC’s (with they’re IT or Advanced CP’s) with they’re HTML page at the same time at the same Browser-Window. If you still use your configuration locally... at your PC I fear I can not help you. The S7-Beans have not been created to work this way. Best regards J_Bell

According to the forum posts there are a couple of users trying to do so. Support of free java PC programming with PLC connection via S7 beans API would have huge advantages over just java based html pages at the PLC CP. Yours, witchIT

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear witchIT, I am sorry, I am not by the product management. What I can say is the following. With the CPs I see that the latest CP versions do not use Applets anymore. They only use Bean-based JAVA with they're latest file systems. CPUs with Ethernet (PN interfaces) willsupport self build HTML pages instead of the standard HTML pages known until now. To get the "new" HTML code to the CPUServer you will not use FTP anymore, there will be a tool that converts the HTML code to DBs within the PLC project in STEP7. In the PLC program you will have to use functions to activate the pages stored as DBs on the CPUthen. Sadly I do not know the nature of the interface used on the CPU but still, a direct access of a PC program to the PLC from remote will not work. As an alternative I would say the use of OPC as an local Server on PC side and accessing this by JAVA would work very well... but as said, you will not access the PLC by Java, only the interface of the OPC Server which runs on PC itself. In this case accessing multiple PLCs at the same time on the same page or applet will certainly work, because you do not have the limitations as you have it on the PLC. Maybe this would be an solution for you. Best regards J_Bell
