HMI stuck in bootloader screen: how to fix?

Just had a major trouble with a couple HMIs that got lost in the middle of a OS Update and got stuck in bootloader screen (the one that states OS Version, MAC Address, etc) and, finally, got it figured out. It is important to state that this procedure works in all panels that fail to boot into that WindowsCE-like interface In bootloader mode, the HMI has like a 0,5 seconds window where it'll preserve the IP we configured in step 3. If ProSave is not waiting for it to boot, it will boot and erase the IP. If so, start from step 3 again. We had to send 2 HMIs to service before discovering we could do it ourselves... Hope this helps! All you need is PST (Primary Setup Tool) -http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/19440762 And ProSave: 1. Start-> Control Patel -> Set PG/PC Interfaces S7ONLINE! and choose ISO Ind. Ethernet->"my eth card name" 2. HMI - power ON , start TIA portal ORPrimary Setup Tool,in menu Online-> Accessible device, wait to find your HMI 3. go to Online diagnostic ->Function -> Assign IP adress (in TIA) OR straight to the HMI ethernet node with 0.0.0.0 IP (inPST), change IP for 192.168.0.2, and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and confirm. ---You will See in the HMI a message blinking, stating your new IP address! PST will probably give you an error just after setting the new IP address, just ignore it. You can try to ping that IP, it should reply. 4. Now start Simatic Prosave, set IP:192.168.0.2 on the first tab 5. in OS update tab, mark "Reset to factory settings", it will enable the MAC Address input 6. Copy the HMI's MAC Address (it is possible to see it in the bootloader screen, on the bottom, or even printed on the back of the HMI). 7. Click "Update OS", it will ask you to confirm. Go ahead and it will say "boot your HMI" 8. Disconect the power, wait 10 seconds and put it back again, ProSave should detect it and start the reset to factory process, wait patiently and it's done...

Hello javed88 and @shish, in my opinion, he does not want an explanation, he explained as if it gets stuck in the middle of OS Update

Hello, The only way is to perform OS update with reset to factory setting. The following link is the correct one. What settings do you have to make on an MP 377 to reset the operator panel to the factory settings? Hope this helps.

S44 Posts: 123 Rating: (4)	HI All, I have the same issue as explain above..... the HMI is stock on the boot loader, and my Ethernet port is not blinking, so i can not connect it using TIA , or PST. will it be so that Pro-save will try to get connection to the panel if running , and when the panel is rebooting? BR

Prosave will try to get communication with panel, when you panel is booting. (It will search for MAC Address) This can be blocked by Virusscanner or Firewall, perhaps you can disable them.
