TCP/IP Address configuration without TIA Portal software

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	I have an application where multiple S7-1200 will be connected on the same network AND they will be running the exact same program. The only difference between them will the TCP/IP address. This is simple to configure when the PLC's leave my factory but if a customer wants to replace one in the field, I would like them to be able to set the TCP/IP address for the replacement unit without needing to purchase & configure TIA Portal. Does anyone no of a way to simply set the TCP/IP address without using TIA Portal? Thanks, Tom

glubb Posts: 26 Rating: (3)	the IP address is stored in the downloaded program and configuration on the SD card. If you put the SD card from the original unit into the replacement unit, the IP address will be taken from the SC card. So, the replacement unit will have the same address as the replaced unit. I don't think that there is right now another way to set the IP address without the TIA portal...

glubb Posts: 26 Rating: (3)	are you sure? yes, you can set the IP address via this tool. But after a power cycle the applied IP address from TIA portal (the configured IP address) is used again during startup. But I'm not 100% sure....

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	The PST tool will not set the address on a device with a valid program already installed. Whenever I try to change the address from say 192.168.2.140 to 192.168.2.141 I get an error message Error 1:238 "The function could not be executed". The tool also failed from the command prompt. If I set the device to factory defaults, then the tool works - until I load a program onto the PLC. I'm looking for a way to keep a pre-programmed spare unit at a customer site and then the customer can set the IP address at the last minute to replace a defective unit.

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	Thanks. That explains what I am seeing. My application will use multiple S7-1200 units on the same network. As many as 20. When they leave my factory, they will all be programmed with unique IP addresses. As these machines are delivered all over the world, I would like to include a spare S7-1200 with the program installed. If a unit goes bad, the customer could simply change the IP address on the pre-programmed spare and install it. Is there a method for doing that? I was going to buy an MMC card as first mentioned in this thread but it seemed the PST would be a better solution. Also, is the MMC proprietary or can I purchase blank ones locally at an office supply store? Thanks, Tom

Tom Ham Posts: 19 Rating: (2)	The PLC's are networked back to a PC running a GUI application and some process controls. This machine has many stations - all performing the same task so each PLC will have the exact same program on it with only the TCP/IP address being different. I want to provide a pre-programmed spare in case one of the station PLC's drop out. Ideally the end user could program the IP address of the spare and then install it. Tom
