billwest Posts: 510 Rating: (113)	The is from the 1200 System Manual: Load memory is non-volatile storage for the user program, data and configuration. When a project is downloaded to the CPU, it is first stored in the Load memory area. This area is located either in a memory card (if present) or in the CPU. This non-volatile memory area is maintained through a power loss. The memory card supports a larger storage space than that built-in to the CPU. Work memory is volatile storage for some elements of the user project while executing the user program. The CPU copies some elements of the project from load memory into work memory. This volatile area is lost when power is removed, and is restored by the CPU when power is restored. The program is loaded into the Load Memory and it runs out of the Work Memory. Regards, billwest

If anybody can explain that, I'll be very appreciate to him or her. The work memory is very limited in comparision to the load memory. For the current largest capacity S7-1214C, 50 KB of working memory, and 2 MB of load memory. You can create large data strctures or arrays in the load memory but your programming much fit within the 50 KB. I actually filled up all my working storage on a moderate PLC ladder logic program and had to scale back the project. Hoping that V11 will allow more flexibility in memory usage to allow dynamic allocation between the two kinds of memory as my load memory is very small in comparision to the total capacity. If we could use load memory and work memory as one huge chunk of memory, I could once again get my project back to full scope. All that said, you can check project resources and it will you very detailed results of what is using up each type of memory. I used that tool to find out how to restructure, reorganize, and rework my PLC programming to fit within the 50KB of working memory. The vast majority of projects well suited for the S7-1200 will never approach that size. However, with RS485 asynchronous networked drive communications, you can quickly create a lot of situations to handle, each of which consume pieces of that valuable memory resource. Good luck!
