Dear Experts, I am attaching the Open Circuit Characteristics of both the Motors (Make:BHEL and Kirlosker), when tested individually. The OCC plot of both the motor is different. Now these two motors are to be connected in Tandem (Back to Back) and are to be operated in Master and Slave Configuration by independent Aramature controller (Simoreg). Fields of both the motors are in series and getting controlled by a Stand-alone Simoreg DC Master. To be noted, as per the Motor name plate data like, Armature Voltage, Armature Current, Speed (Base Speed / Field-Weakening Speed), Designed Field Voltage (110 VDC). As the OCC plot for both the motors are different, it is obvious that when same field current (P100 = 120 Amps) is configured in Field as well as Armature Controllers, the Voltage drop across individual fields will be different resulting in different flux value in two motors. This will result in rotating one motor at faster speed (rpm) than other. But as both the motors are mechanically connected in Tandem, they will force fully rotate at same speed. But this will result in Induced EMF value different in both the motors(say at a particular speed). This will also result in current variation in both the motors although master will send the slave current set-point. Thus it may create shearing torque in the coupling. So, I think our main intension is to equalize the torque in both the motors. 1. Is my understanding correct? 2. If Yes, and we need to equalize the torque in both the motors in tandem, what can be done in drives in order to manipulate the same? 3. What is your suggestion in order to optimize this system. 4. Is there any standard solution to such problem? To be noted: This is an old 6-Hi Cold Rolling Mill where initially both the motors in tandem were of BHEL make.
