Dovi_k Experienced Member Joined: 12/26/2010 Last visit: 4/10/2025 Posts: 27 Rating: (0)	Hi, I have to read data from an incremental encoder where the output signals come in TTL using A+/- ;B+/- ;R+/- signals. I'm using CPU1215C - How to read the data ? I found several ways but I don't know what is correct : 1. Can I use HSC built-in inputs or they are not compatiable with TTL (5V) ? If yes - I have just 2 inputs for A, B but what with the others ? 2. The same as 1. using SB 1221 with 5VDC inputs. What with the other signals ? 3. Using 1Count5V card with ET200S with IM-151-3 (Profinet Remote IO) - It seems to have all the data I need. What is the best way to use - Any other tips will be gladly accepted.

The use of SB1221 diwh 5VDC should be a good solution. I suppouse that R+/- are reset signal. Am I right? The use o f 1Count5V signal seems to be also a good solution.

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	1Count5V is a RS422 signal level receiver, not TTL. I doubt also that your encoder is TTL, since it has also the inverted signals

If you work with HTL and supply of 24V you can use directly the PLC imputs. TTL and RS485 works both with 5V signal. The diference is that RS485 is differencial, i.e. A ->B, and TTL A->M; B->M. In the praxis, it is same. TIP: not all signals should be used necessarly

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	I agree with Pegaia, you can use HTL output directly to PLC input 24V, you may calculate max frequency of output since there is a limit. Use A+,B+, (R+) signals only, leave the inverted signals. If you want to use TTL output you will need CB. TTL output shall give approx 5V on high state, while RS422 (485)gives >=2.5V.

At the attached manual I got (In german) it says "the output signal is TTL(RS422)" so I'll also try the 1Count5V. "If you want to use TTL output you will need CB." - Did you mean the SB1221 or there is CB that would help also ?

Marko Bursic Posts: 1410 Rating: (154)	I meant signal board (SB1221). You can easy check with voltmeter. RS422 level is >=2.5V for high level, this doesn't mean that it can't be also TTL (5V). If you got approx 5V (that probably you will) then use signal board.
