Sure glad you are thinking about this before you start!! If your upgrading from V6-> V8 and your keeping the old machines, make sure that the PCs meet the PCS 7 minimum requirements which can be found in the readme file of the version of V8.X that you are going to. You can upgrade the multi-project on a remote station no problem. I don't believe you can upgrade the V6 licenses to to V7 or V8 on the V6 station, haven't tried it, and would be nervous to do that. If you have the software, you should upgrade, then upgrade the licenses. Just be sure not to put all the V6 licenses, V7 upgrade AND V8 upgrade licenses all at the same time expecting the upgrade to be done on its own without problems. Always upgrade from V6 licenses to only V7 licenses, then upgrade to V8 license separately. You could transfer the licenses from the PC stations to a USB then upgrade them in the office, however remember that your PC stations (which are presumably running a process) are no longer licensed for use and will have issues. Also note, the station does not have to be loaded at V7 just to do the license upgrade. You can install the software to V8, and upgrade the V6 licenses to V7, and then in a separate process, load the V8 licenses, and upgrade from V7 to V8. Besure to export your V6 license to a csv file to have a record of what you have before you start the upgrade process. Hello RugbyGuy!
I'm aware of these, that's why I have this other thread, please give it a visit also if you have time maybe you could also give some inputs: https://support.industry.siemens.com/tf/ww/en/posts/windows-7-drivers-for-ipc547c/151881/?page=0&pageSize=10
Would it be due to the v6 station PC platform (WinXP)? The upgrade package is separate and independent with the PCS7 software right? Ahm, how actually is the upgrading done? Is there a separate software to be installed or maybe just a small program to be run to upgrade the licenses?
What do you mean by the first sentence? Is there even other way than what you stated on the second sentence?hehe
The upgrading of license I think would be needed on the last stage of the upgrade, when the multiproject is already upgraded offline to version 8 and it's already to be tested on the new PC stations (old PC stations now offline), on the recommissioning part, so that wouldn't be a problem I think. Anyways, it's good to know this method is also possible.
I see, then this I think would be the best method. You are saying I backup all license of the current PC stations (PCS7 v6), and then upgrade them all after the PC stations are upgraded (new and old IPC) to PCS7 v8, no need v6 > v7 software upgrade on PC stations, right? How do I do this actually, do I need to retrieve all licenses on their respective PC stations (v6 ES license to the new v8 ES PC, v6 OSS license to v8 OSS PC, etc.) and upgrade them twice there (since upgrade license package is separate on each of PC station, and 2 each, one v6 > v7 and the other v7 > v8 right)? It would be like one USB to backup the licenses on each PC station.
Thanks for this advice. Thank you very much for your very detailed, complete, and informative response. I also would appreciate if you could also give some inputs on my main thread: https://support.industry.siemens.com/tf/ww/en/posts/pcs7-upgrade-package-v6-1-to-v8-2/151049?page=0&pageSize=300 Thanks again! |
