I have a REAL value that needs to vary a timer.  In all of the conversions available, I can't seem to get down to an INT value.  Thoughts or tips?

I'm using TIA portal professional V13 SP1 with an S7-300 controller

Perhaps he only want the integer value and wont use very high numbers... However, to know exactly what kind of data he will get or need to convert, can make a better solution that only use the function REAL_TO_INT.

ok, in this situation pls think how important is to post all relevant infos when I need help from others. He didn't, so better will be explain some possibilities which can happen. This can help to others too.

There are some Option that you can use depending on what you will need:

- To convert REAl to INT just because need the integer value with upper roung on >=#.5 and down with <#.5

Use REAL_TO_INT will take integer from the real value:

3.1 (real) = 3 (int)  ///  3.8 (real) = 4 (int)  ///  3.5 (real) = 4 (int)

Ex:  "conv_INT" := REAL_TO_INT("num_REAL");

- if you need the upper integer despite the decimal value (NOTE: you need DINT):

Use FLOOR:

3.# (real) = 3 (Dint)   /// # is any number, such as 3.2, 3.6....

Ex: "conv_DINT" := FLOOR("num_REAL");

- if you need just the integer despite the decimal value (NOTE: you need DINT):

Use CEIL:

3.# (real) = 4 (Dint)   /// # is any number, such as 3.2, 3.6....

Ex: "conv_DINT" := CEIL"(num_REAL");

- If you really need the decimal number, but also the integer, you can do a MOD function + FLOOR:

3.1 (real) => you get 3 and 1

Ex: "conv_DINT" := FLOOR("num_REAL");             //You get the integer

"Temp" := REAL_TO_DINT("num_REAL" * 10);

"conv_DEC" := "Temp" MOD 10;                               //You get the Decimal

NOTE: depending on how many dec number you need, you add "0"s to the number 10

If you need a big number, USE DINT variable, otherwise use INT.

I hope it would be useful for someone.

use MOVE for Dint to Int
