Probably everyone would like to see some changes to Tia portal, but I don’t have the feeling that everyone really mention them to Siemens.

I tried to do that in the past, and then I also understand why they don’t be mentioned anymore.

Despite that I wanted to just give it another try.

So I made a list of 34 general points in the hope that someone at Siemens (higher ranked than the automation support development note list) also read this and really does something with it.

This list is limited to daily used functions so I’m not getting really into de wincc advanced and professional, properties of hardware etc.

At the end we all want a better TIA Portal. So let’s make V16 changing the world.

I wouldn't mind being able to use the Startdrive with cu310, plus is there a way to work on multiple monitors that I'm not aware of? e.g. have the HMI edition on monitor 1, PLC code monitor 2 and maybe a DB on the 3rd one.

Safety code -  moving different values to one tag would be nice(now requires a walkaround).

This is my top 3  for ver 17  

1 - No jump from the cursor to the previous nw  in FDB when i switch monitor on/off, go online etc. etc

2 - Separate language in TIA for step7 and Wincc. when i have several FB's open it takes a lot time to switch from one language to the other. An extra language Column at the Alarm page would be very helpful.

3 TIA should be downwards compatible . We need too many VM machines!

4 Better cross-reference  see the old Sep7 5.5 (is much better)

I want to see where the set and where the reset function is used  not the simple write and read

Also I think an increment is a write (Siemens not)

well, my 2 cents:

1. Breakpoints

2. When online, to be able to change variable values directly from the code editor or DB's.
    Like in Codesys, where you can double click a variable and toggle it (if bool) or write the new value in a dialog box. Then with a keyboard shortcut to write all the prepared new values to the PLC memory.
Using watch tables for this is annoying and time consuming. Not to mention that it could be dangerous sometimes, because the vars selected for writing are remembered and you may incidentally change something you don't want.

3. Option to disable the automatic renaming of tags throughout the project. In 95% of the cases or so this is very convenient, but sometimes leads to a horrible mess. In some cases I want to rename something in just one place.

4. Option to exclude project components (FB's , functions etc.) from build - so that I can keep them in the project even if they contain errors.

5. About HMIs, the dialog for picking a tag to remember the last place, and when invoked again to open to that place. Now if I pick a PLC tag, on next opening the dialog shows the HMI tags and I have to click a lot to pick a PLC tag.

6. In bi-lingual HMI projects, entering a text to apply to both languages. Like if I make a button with a text 'Start' on it, this text to become 'Start' in the second language as well - now it stays 'Text'.
It would also be nice to have a shortcut that allows me to enter the text in the second language directly and immediately see how it looks, because often the text in the second language is longer and doesn't fit.

 Done the Float, after many crashes gave up on it, tried it with V15.1 U3 seems ok but very resource-consuming... More than 2 windows (with one having online edits) and my laptop is frozen. The most important thing for me is the cu310, is there a way to determine when the support for that module will be in TiA?

You can float TIA portal components and place them anywhere your windows environment will allow.

I have stretched portal across 2 "HD" monitors, floated DBs, blocks, and tag tables without any problems.
