Compiling error, invalid datatype for tag in HMI tag-table.

EricJacob11 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hey Guys! Just started out using TIA-portal and have bumped in to a problem. I've made a complete projekt with a S7-1200 and a KTP400 Basic. Some of the buttons that I've made in the HMI and connected with tags that are bool is OK and doesn't give me an error when compiling. But some of them, no matter how i create and connect these tags, gives the error that the data-type isn't valid. I've tried to compile and rebuild the entire projekt, using hardware overview and then rightclick. Didn't work. I'm using TIA V12 SP1. So I turned up here in hope of finding some help. S7 AUTOMAN Posts: 515 Rating: (56)	Hi, Did you create the tags manually in the HMI tags? or was it linked directly with the PLC tags? i guess you tried to create tags in the HMI tag table by manually selecting the Data types and linking it with the PLC tags (which might be of a different data type)

EricJacob11 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	I didn't make the tags in the local HMI table, I only used the tags that are used in the PLC tagtable. I might have made this mistake on some of the buttons without thinking about it, but if so, has the buttons that doesn't give an error been linked to the "default tag table" from the PLC. Or am I wrong? I've tried to delete the tags that generated the errors and specified them again by linking them with the tags from "default tag table" of the PLC. Still get the same errors.

S7 AUTOMAN Posts: 515 Rating: (56)	HI, I meant dont try linking your HMI tags with PLC tags, instead use the PLC tags directly behind the button properties, thus HMI tags will automatically get generated in the tag table.Try this out and get back. Also show us a print screen of the tags in the PLC tag list also If so after deleting the error tags, do a compilation and try doing it again.

EricJacob11 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	I haven't made any specifik HMI-tags, I've only used the tags from PLC-tags behind each button. I did make a test now and deleted all the HMI-tags that was generated. Tried to connect the button with tag from the PLC-tagtable again but still get the same "invalid data". Is it possible that I've made some errors creating the tags in the PLC-tagtable and therefore made it not possible to connect to HMI-buttons? I haven't compiled right after deleting them, I'll give it a try. A bit strange though that it doesn't work when it sais this in the manual that it doesn't matter in which tagtable you create the tag, it will still work in all tables? 0_Einstein Grandmaster-Expert Joined: 7/7/2010 Last visit: 1/12/2026 Posts: 16358 Rating: (2522)	Hi Eric, I cannot tell from the images/posts, but my guess is the configuration of your buttons is perhaps multiplexing a word and your tag is a bool. Maybe show the various properties of the first bool's use on a button to let us see what is causing the error during compilation. It seems like the process you used to create the hmi / plc tag connection is working properly. It really just looks like the way you are trying to use the tag is incompatible with the datatype of bool. Fix the way you use the tag and bool should work.

EricJacob11 Posts: 9 Rating: (0)	Hi! Thank you for your answer, I decided to swith to a KTP600 basic instead, more suitable solution and will try to make a new HMI-project today. All the buttons that I had in my HMI-screens were installed by "drag-and-drop" from Elements, so I didn't make any presets for multiplexing Word instead of using Bool. Did the same thing to my new setup with the KTP600, got the same error, go figure Each tag/button is used for a Memorybit "Start/Stopp-signal" in various networks in the PLC-program so I cant figure out why some of the buttons that I've made in the HMI gets the preset for Word instead of Bool?
