Snap7 IoT for Quark (IOT2000) platform

davenardella Advanced Member Joined: 6/12/2013 Last visit: 9/13/2024 Posts: 10 Rating: (21)	Hi All, I started a branch inside the Snap7 project : Snap7 IoT, a collection of projects derived from the main core, organized by-architecture dedicated to small hardware. The aim is to avoid, when possible, the cross-compiling, to build the library directly into the target device. The last architecture supported is Intel Quark (tm), particularly I tested Snap7 with two devices : an Intel Galileo Gen 2 board and Siemens SIMATIC IOT2000. To to this I modified the Snap7 core removing all the dependencies from STL. With Snap7 it's possible to exchange data with a PLC or simulate a CP i.e. every HMI/Scada system can see the Galileo Board itself as a S7-3152PN/DP and communicate with it using the "S7Protokol". Into the Quark port you can find also a workspace created with Intel System Studio IoT Edition containing 3 examples that you can easily import. You can build the main library, libsnap7.so, directly into the board using the GNU toolchain or copy the supplied file into usr/lib. One of the examples supplied is (I hope) particularly interesting: it shows how to gather data from IOT2000 using WinCC. if you have a plant which has a SCADA system as supervisor, with a few lines of code you can communicate with your IOT2000 without using a different way such as a web server or a SSH console. I tried to compiling attached source with new eclipse plug-in (V1.1.0), but several errors occurred. Many "undefined reference" errors occurred on snap7.cpp. C:\data\dev\src\workspace_eclipse\Snap7ClientTest_neon2\IOT2000 Release/..\snap7.cpp:40: undefined reference to `Cli_Create' snap7.o: In function `snap7::TS7Client::~TS7Client()': C:\data\dev\src\workspace_eclipse\Snap7ClientTest_neon2\IOT2000 Release/..\snap7.cpp:45: undefined reference to `Cli_Destroy' snap7.o: In function `snap7::TS7Client::Connect()': C:\data\dev\src\workspace_eclipse\Snap7ClientTest_neon2\IOT2000 Release/..\snap7.cpp:50: undefined reference to `Cli_Connect' snap7.o: In function `snap7::TS7Client::ConnectTo(char const, int, int)': : : : etc.. Yesterday I also tried to run it and now I know what a use have to do. First of all I can tell you that I have followed the description of Snap7 for IoT. http://snap7.sourceforge.net/snap7_iot_quark.html Copy the file "snap7-iot-quark-1.4.2.tar" to your IOT2000. unzip the tar-file and navigate to "snap7-iot-quark-1.4.2\build\unix\" and execute "make -f i586_linux.mk install" After the successfully installation you have to copy the libsnap7.so into the following folder on your IOT2000 Device "/usr/lib" You can find the file in the folder "snap7-iot-quark-1.4.2\release\Linux\i586\" Now you can leave the IOT2000 and go to your engineering station On your engineering station you also have to copy the libsnap7.so to the folder "IOT2000_SDK\sysroots\i586-nlp-32-poky-linux\usr\lib" <-- this is your SDK directory of the IOT2000 Open Eclipse and create a new IOT2000 project Go to the Properties of your Eclispe Project and navigate to "C/C++ Build -> Settings" and click on the General Folder of the IOT2000 Linker On the field Flags you have to add -lsnap7 to be able to use the snap7 library now you can create either your own project with snap7 for IoT or you copy the content of one example to your "example.cpp" and copy the files snap7.cpp and sna7.h to your project. Please let me know if this description was useful. Best regards and have fun! Dear Taxfor, I did exactly the same steps your published and still can not erase all eclipse error reports.. "symbol can not be resolved , type can not be resolved" I look for the internet for 2 days but still stuck in it. I think there is something wrong with my "#include files", but I tried reference->C++builder and add snap7.h to the inlude folders and still cant fix it. My eclispe is ok with IOT2040 example program and I can run the blink demo. Any suggestions? big thanks!
