PCS7 OS Server Download Error - SQL Server Access Rights

Mike Gledhill Posts: 3 Rating: (2)	I have a problem when downloading a PCS7 v7.1 SP1 OS Server configuration from the Engineering Station to the OS Server, the following error is generated after carrying out the PLC>Download operation for the OS server: The project could not be opened. The SQL server cannot access database. Please check access rights The screen image is contained in the attached file Fig 1. All systems are available on the network, and no problems were experiences when transferring the Station Configuration settings to the OS Server, the destination project folder on the OS Server is correctly shared and visible over the network on the Engineering Station. The user access rights on the server (the user is specified as User01 and is an Administrator) are such that the user is a member of the following groups (see attached file Fig 2 for screen image): Administrators Power Users SIMATIC HMI SIMATIC NET SQLServer2005MSSQUUser$PC-SERV-001$WINCC (PC-SERV-001 being the name of the OS Server PC) One point of note, the OS Server is running Windows XP SP 3 rather than Windows Server 2003 Does any one have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Hi Mike, Have you checked the OS folder Permissions (on OS Server). Check you have full control in that....

It was the folder permissions, Windows XP was set to use simple file sharing (Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab - Advanced settings - Use simple file sharing). I unticked the box and set the permissions for the shared folder (Windows explorer, properties, security tab) and it worked. I will change the computer name as well, your right, the '-' is listed as an illegal character for the computer name (I seem to be getting away with it though) Regards Mike

What should you watch out for when downloading from the WinCC/PCS 7 Engineering Station to the Operator Station (ES-OS download)

This is because the SQL databases uses the computer name in his databases and the system could malfunction if you change it...

Member Joined: 6/22/2012 Last visit: 7/23/2024 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	Dear Mr. Mike, To activate the database, go to Start--> all programs--> Microsoft SQL server 2008R2--> Cofiguration tools --> sql server configuration manager --> sql server services--> SQL Wincc then start. now you can check.

GaryD Posts: 3 Rating: (2)	I had this exact problem and fought user rights all day. In the end, the Simatic Shell / Settings was pointing to the wrong network card for designating the "terminal bus." So it doesn't care while transferring the files over tcp/ip, but when it tries to initialize the new project on the server, the ES to OS connection is apparently trying to use the designated "terminal bus".

This is because the SQL databases uses the computer name in his databases and the system could malfunction if you change it... That is right. But please notice, the underscore "_" is also an illegal character for computer names since PCS 7 V7.1 SP4! Look at this FAQ. Regards jumo
