Hello Arne; The connector you show could be a RJ11 telephone jack, sometimes used for RS-232 connections, but it could also be a RJ45 Ethernet jack. I cannot tell from your picture, since it is difficult to count the pins in the connector.(it is partially masked by some wire). ee the following site: http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-rj45-and-rj11/ First or all, I would assume that what you really want to do is to communicate with your external module through the CP 341 you noted in your CPU rack; this is a serial communication processor (possibly RS-232, give us the part number so we can check). MPI is mostly used to communicate between the PLC and the programming computer; your adapter is either RS-232 to MPI, or USB to MPI.. What you need to do is to open the manual for your external module (or search for the manufacturer name and model on the web if you do not have it yet) to determine the RS-232 connection pinout it requires (to build a cable that will be used between the CP 341 and the module). You must absolutely find out what protocol this module uses over its RS-232 connection: Modbus, ASCII.. to findout if the CP 341 speaks that protocol. RS-232 is only an electrical standard for communication wiring; the protocol is the language spoken over these wires. To give you an image, say you pick up your old wired phone, as it is ringing. You answer, but the person on the line speaks only Urdu; you only speak English. Even though the electrical connection between both phones is correct (you hear each other), you will not have a good conversation since you do not share the same language (or communication protocol). So you need both the correct RS-232 pinout and the correct protocol in your case. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier |
