I have the S7 1200 1214C AC/DC/Rly, I know I need a signal board if I want to use PTO. Can I use this driver: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/servo-drives-controls/0146327/ and this motor: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/servo-motors/0146210/ Can I use these together to implement a positioning project? Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you

I am unsure - do you want to know if two non-siemens compoenents are going to work together.. or do you have a question about how the PLC provides signals for these components? Mohammed Gamal Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Thank you for your kind reply :) I think I misphrased my question. What I meant was, can I use the S7 1200 to provide the PTO required to control the position of the Omron servo motor? It's a question regarding compatability, can you see what I mean? :)

A quick Google did not produce the information I would like to see. I now think the following.. * there are x2 types of this drive.. pulse-and-direction and MECHATROLINK-II type * resolution is 10,000 pulses per revolution and 3,000 rpm nominal speed. You would want the pulse-and-direction type. The motor driven at nominal speed >> 10,000 x 3,000 / 60 = 500,000 pulse per second. The best speed for a signal board is 200kHz.. but many drives of this type can impliment an internal gear ratio as to make up for the gap. Knowing Omron devices you may see that you need to connect the signal board as NPN outputs.. which it is capable of doing. So what do you need to find out via Google or RS components or OMRON.. * can you set the internal multiplier / gear ratio? * how does the connection look to drive the pulse to the Driver? >> voltage levels / connection type (maybe differential) * get the drive system manual and read up on functionality. I have no doubt that the drive you are looking at is quality stuff, but making it work with the S7-1200 will be more than just coding the PLC. Please do your homework and find the answers first - it is your project.. unless you want to pay someone to do the work for you. [smile] Alternatively there are other brands that will work or consider using a Siemens V60 drive which have the same functionality. Helpful? w

I did read the manual but I had difficulty understanding it, this is my first project in automation so excuse me if I sounded lazy :) Sinamics V60 was my first choice, but I couldn't find a supplier that would deliver to Egypt. I even spoke with the Siemens office in Egypt and they didn't help much, they said the V60 was obsolete. Is the V60 still available for purchase now?

We are shipping in this week, the last x4 of x6 machine order that use V60 drives, S7-1200 (V4.0) and KTP700 (2nd genegration Basic panels). Yes, you can. I did it. Servo drive and motor must have same rating ( 400W - 400W). You need also 3 cables: - power cable to motor - encoder cable - control (input/output) cable. Those cables are not cheap, but you need them. There are some other issues. - you must use RFI filter (buy or DIY, I know what I am saying) - use signal board SB1222 200kHz output (you can use outputs in sinkig mode) - you must use current limit resistors (input current range = from 8 to 15 mA) for servo inputs PULS, SIGN, CLR. If you use 24VDC, then it is about 2,2k.

My concern (from the little info I found) was with the pulse count per revolution. Is there a multiplication factor in the drive to "lower" the pulse rate needed? Thanks again for sharing with us! Is there a multiplication factor in the drive to "lower" the pulse rate needed? w There is a rotary switch on front for reference pulse setting (PULSE). Look at page 15 in manual. 16 positions, you select open collector or line driver, reference pulse and reference pulse type. Easy. For open collector reference pulse 1000 and 2500 p/rev are possible. 2500x3000/60 = 125 kHz

kriipc Silver Member Joined: 4/11/2011 Last visit: 10/7/2024 Posts: 132 Rating: (7)	About using of RFI/EMI filters. 2 digital outputs of PLC are used - "pulse" and "direction". In my desk in test phase I tried to rotate motor. X impulses forward and X impulses backward. And there was a shift of "homeposition". In internet I found just 1 reference about using Junma and 1200. In finnish language. There was the same problem. He found out, that EMI from servo drive affects "direction" input/output signal (unstable signal, when this signal is on) and this causes inaccuracy of positioning. - use EMI filters - use screened cables (original cables are) - separate controller, power and encoder cables
