PCS7 Migration from V6.0 to V7.1 SP1.. please help me...

muneeb Experienced Member Joined: 1/17/2006 Last visit: 2/7/2022 Posts: 171 Rating: (0)	Hi there, I am upgrading the software part of the PCS7 while keeping the AS as same. I backup the project from old ES i.e V6.1. I buy new PC and install V7.1 SP1 of PCS7. I retrieve the multiproject here in V7.1 and as per instructions i first opened any cfc and updated its format as per V7.1. Now i open the Master library of my project and replaced all the blocks of DRIVE60 with DRIVE70 which i took from PCS7 library V7. then i compile the CFC and it gives error while generating module driver that " necessary files are missing for block CH_AI. use the exact version of library". Please refer to the attahced picture for error. please help me how to solve it. Also can someone give me brief instructions about complete upgrade as i dont want to go through 158 pages of siemens manual on it. Ultimately, if i succeed in upgrading to V7.1 then i will follow same procedure to go for upgrade to V8.1. please please help me. Attachment CH_AI.jpg (538 Downloads)

PSW2586 Posts: 129 Rating: (17)	Hi, What was the FB Number of CH_AI block from your old backup ? have you used any custom FB / FC in PTTs of your old project, that you might not have copied in new project (Block folder of AS). Maybe you can have some help by checking Block Numbers of (FBs) template of MonAnL block under new PCS7 Library. Post your old Template of CH_AI block, will give it a try in my PCS7 V8 installation.

Note that i am updating the project by following the siemens manual : upgrade software from V6.x to V7.1 without utilization of new functions". There is nothing mentioned that i must upgrade my Master data library. Any clue to this issue?

PSW2586 Posts: 129 Rating: (17)	Hi, The block number for CH_AI in my old Master Data library is FC275. Which Library are you using ? PCS7 Basis or PCS7 APL ? CH_AI (Channel Driver) block should be FB1869 as per APL V8. There is nothing mentioned that i must upgrade my Master data library. Any clue to this issue? Do update Master Data Library first, and use that PTT to publish instances in your new backup. Again.. you may need PTTs from there for future use (say quick cross check for some interconnection, default values) or IEA needs.

The manual says just convert the format of the CFCs and recompile it. But this recompiling with "generate block driver" is giving this error. The manual does not say to update the Master Data library. if i compile the CFCs without generating block drivers, then it compiles without errors.

When you insert new blocks, you need to grab them from the master library. If you need to update a block, you will do that first in the master library and then distribute them over your project.

In this case, if i compile my CFC in V7.1 after changing its format, it gives this error of CH_AI if i select generate module drivers. Can anyone tell me what will be the impact if i compile without "generate module driver" and download it to AS? Keeping in mind that i am in V7.1 of PCS7.

That's not enough. After replacing the blocks (...60 with ...70), did you also update the used blocktypes of CFC of the CPU? When the new versions are in your master data library you could do this (when block folder of library is selected) in SIMATIC Manager by 'Options -> Charts ->Update Block Types'. An other possibility would be to install the old V6 library so that the driver wizard is matching to the old V6 drivers, but I would recommend to use the first solution. Regards...

But i followed the manual of SIEMENS that did not say me to update the Master Data library. Maybe because i chose an upgrade option by "without new functions of V7.1". Now please to be simple in all my efforts, guide me and tell me if i am right or wrong in following steps of upgrade. 1. took backup from ES of V6.0 by archiving it. 2. Installed PCS7 V7.1 on new PC which i will use as ES. 3. Retrieved the backup that i took in step 1, here in my new ES. 4. Migrated the OS projects successfully in the new ES. 5. opened a CFC in my new ES, changed the position of any block inside and due to this it prompted me to adapt new format of V7.1 which i did. 6. tried to compile this CFC with "generate module driver" and it gave this error which we are discussing about. now please mention if i am missing anything. Also what will be the impact if i compile the CFCs without :generating module driver" and download it in my running AS? I will be thankful to u.

Your new installed engineering PC has the version 7.1 instllalled. If you don't want to upgrade the blocks used in the project to the newer version, you don't need to do that. But for the drivers there is some background knowledge for the system needed. This background knowledge comes with the library you have installed. Actually you have V7.1 installed but the drivers used in your project are in version 6.1, so your system actually don't know how to interconnect the old V6.1 drivers (in the @Charts). You have now two options: Install the old V6.1 library (consider to install the V7.1 library again, after installing the V6.1 library. See attachment or manual "Software update without utilization of new functions (PCS 7 V6.x or higher to V7.1)" chapter "Installation of Additional PCS 7 Libraries" Update the blocks of the driver system (all with Author 'DRIVExx) in your project. In your 1. post you said that you replaced already the blocks DRIVE60 to DRIVE70 in the master data library. So the only thing wich is missing is now to "introduce" them to the CFC-folder of your CPU(s). That's quit easy; In SIMATIC-Manager select the block folder of your master data library. In the top area of SIMATIC-Manager you will find 'Options'. Select 'Charts' and then click on 'Update blocktypes'. In the apearing dialog keep always the default settings and click through all dialogs till the end. That's all (in Version 7.1) Because you said you would like to go to 8.1 later: Also in version 8.1 you will have the same issue. Your Engineering PC in V8.1 will not know how to handle the older driver blocks if you not install the older library. So you could also leave his step now and care about this topic when you are on version 8.1. If you think about to upgrade the driver blocks to the APL-Drivers of 8.1 you should know that you will not be able to replace them like described in option 2 because the APL-Drivers have a complete new range of FB-numbers. So changing to APL-Drivers would mean to open every CFC with an driver and manually replace an old driver by a new APL-Driver. This must be done than for all drivers of one CPU.Other blocks can be mixed in one CPU (APL and non APL) but not the driver blocks. For one CPU you must decide to use APL-Driver or non APL-Driver. To compile and download to the CPU without generating driver is no good idea. Without additional work all drivers will have 'fault-state'. Best regards....
