Communications between S7_400 and Rockwell RSView32

mom Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	we have a machine with anS7-400 processor, the HMI is a touch screen PC with rockwell's RSView32 HMI software, communication median is profibus. The HMI PC uses an SST card and a dongle(converter) to attach to the profibus. Our problem is with the SST card and dongle as it is not very reliable and is touchy. We recently upgraded our PLC and added an ethernet card. Can we use ethernet to communicate between the S7 and RSView, and if so what other software is needed? Thank You Mike

If the Software supports OLE 2.0 or OPC (actually there the same) than you can easily use SOFTNET S7 for industrial Ethernet (with a standard NIC) or S7-1613 (with CP 1613) to connect to the S7 PLC, without any problem... and most propably faster than with PROFIBUS. I am not familiar with Softnet7 or S71613 but I am assuming that these are software applications that allow an HMI to communicate with an S7 processor? I will have to do some surfing to find some literature on this to try to figure out how they work. Thank you for responding. Your help is greatly appreciated. Mike

Jesper Pedersen Posts: 279 Rating: (30)	You need Simatic Softnet Ethernet Lean. With this you setup an OPC connection that RSView32 can use. You can use just the normal ethernet NIC in the PC.
