NR80 Posts: 10 Rating: (1)	Hello all, I am required to select a transformer for a control panel. This control Panel consist of 10 MCBs for 10A each for 110 VAC supply. The incoming power is 220VAC and I need a step down transformer for 110VAC. Could someone someone guide me for the VA ratings for this tranformer. I am considering a 10KVA transformer, is this going to be too much? Please advice. Thanks. Regards, NR

Total no of 110V AC contactors/relays, coils rating i.e. inrush VA & holding VA rating, total no of indication lamps if any, total no. of solenoid valves with rating etc. Then you need to calculate maximum loading ratings with respect to time, means at any given point of time how many maximum 110V AC contactors/relays, indication lamps, solenoid valves remains energies. So this total load you need to calculate in VA at 110V AC transformer secondary side. To this sum just add 20% as factor of safety. Now from the derived value you can easily select nearby transformer VA rating. Hope this answers your query. DEEP.

@nkur Posts: 202 Rating: (16)	Hi there you need to know the VA for MCB i.e holding VA & inrush VA also you need to consider VA of other control components i.e indication ,power contactors or aux. contactors

Suppose your total burden/current for 110V AC is approx. is 10A. burden may be your indication lamp, contactor coil, relay coil,etc. So pls multiply current by voltage, so it is simply 110*10=1100VA, so you can select your control transformer of 1.5KVA, i.e one size higher than required. Now for input current of this 1.5KVA, pls divide 1500VA by 230V (input voltage), so simply you will get current (1500/230=6.5A approx. I hope now you can understand of selection of control trafo size.

jaydenmoorie Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I think for general tranformer like this that you have mentioned above a mono phase transfarmers are the best that giviing exilent on load and off load performance and no confusing terminal linking required.
