S7-400 Ethernet Communication With S5 (Sinec H1)

At present we have communication established bettween two S5 PLC-s over ethernet (sinec H1) and they are using FB 120-FB 127 (OB 230-OB 237) for sending data. We are changing one of the S5 PLC for S7-400 system and want to keep this connection. S5 system has CP1143 (6gk1 143-0tb01) and on S7-400 we put CP 443 (6gk7 443-1ex20). Also we will use a SCALANCE x101-1AUI converter. As I understand on S7-400 side it is enough to define a connection to unidentified partner in Netpro and define connection as ISO transport connecton and then I can use FC5 and 6 (AG_SEND, AG_RECV) blocks to send data to S5. Since I dont have any experience with S5 I don't know what is neccesary tochange in remaining S5 system (CPU928B).Is it maybe possible not to change anything (if I put same MAC address on S7 as it was on old S5). I guess not because I saw that FB120 on s5 is similar to putfunction on s7-400(we define where to write data in remote CPU, which is not the case with ag_send fc) Thank you for any help with this issue.

There are some sample programs and documentation that could guide you. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Matko, I can ensure you that you can work the way you want it to work. You can replace the S5 by the S7 and use the MAC of the S5 in the S7 CP. Please make sure that you have all TSAP information you need for the connections. These information is absolutely needed as well as the knowledge about the active connection establishment (which service is the first one in the S5 COM 1430 TF?), please verify this. Only question that is bothering me is that in all examples that I found of S5 to S7 ISO connection when FB 120 is used the parameter QTYP is set as'DB' and in our S5 project this is set as 'RW'. As I understand it when we use 'DB' type it is very similar to AG_SEND and AG_RECV in S7 (we send and receive data directly from/to the DB we select in parameters of FB120. But when we use 'RW' type we also define the destination DB and DW offset of the remote partner so it is more similar to 'put' and 'get' functions of S7.That means that inours5 software now I have only one call of FB 120 (sending to partner), and I don't have receive function FB121. I was wandering if it is somehow possible to keep it this way or do I have to add FB121 to S5 and change the connection type to 'DB'. Thanks, Best regards, Matko

fritz Diamond Expert Joined: 10/7/2005 Last visit: 1/12/2026 Posts: 3054 Rating: (1062)	Hello Matko Good news: You are correct, using a SEND with QTYP = RWmakes it a so called "Active Write" which contains the destination DB/DW numbersand only requires a "Receive All" call in the partner. Not so good news: This may not work any more when anS7 is now the destination (trut he be told, I never tried it). As the destination DB/DW will be part of the telegram, using a "AG_RECV" call may still do the job (an S7 does of course not have a "Receive All" Block anymore) and you would then "simply" ignore the surplus destionation DB/DW header data. Saying that, it may be easier (or even required) to ditch the existing link and configure a new Send/Receive link as well as adjusting the S5 program. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Hello, fritz is absolutely right. In theses cases you use Fetch active or Write active. Please be aware that you use different Connections on the S7 for these. One for Fetch passive and one for Write passive. For Send / Receive you have different options in the connection configuration. See the picture for more details.
