WiFi Link with S7-1200

I am trying to desing a new project with S7-1200 wincc flexible and remote i/o In the attached file you can see a drawing of the above communication. What i want to do is: I will have a S7-1200 on a R/O water plant which must collect data from a remote tank via wifi. All the plant must be monitored from a wincc flexible which must communicate with plc via wifi. Is it possible? Attachment wifi_plan.jpg (908 Downloads)

jklm Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, From the theoretical point of view, this can be realized. The S7-1200 V2 can be IO controller, and you will find ET200 periphery that can act as IO device. And this IO communication canrun wireless if the required update time is not small. And a Wireless link with the HMI is also not an issue. From the practical point of view, designing wireless solutions require more information to select the correct components (access points, clients, antennas, frequency used, ...) A physical implementation (where are the divices located, distances to be covered, ...) is required. You could for instance place a dual radio access point at the central location (S7-1200) and use directional antennas to point to thank on one radio and to the HMI with teh second radio. But other setups are possible. A site survey to detectother senders andother problems that could affect the wireless connections is necessary.

stamatis Posts: 17 Rating: (0)	Thank you a lot. The wireless connection isn't really a problem. My colleges have already calculate and deside about the components we must use for the wifi link. What i want to know is if we can use remote IO over profinet connection. Thanks for your help again!!!

jklm Posts: 1742 Rating: (309)	Hello, Running Profinet IO over wireless is possible. Not as fast as over wired Ethernet, and the wireless conditions must be met to have a stable communication. Another point is that Profinet IO cyclic communication is MAC based, and that the wireless client used must not hide the MAC address of the IO device. The Scalance W clients have corresponding settings for that. If roaming is required (mobile clients) or in larger configurations, the iPCF feature of Scalance W is mandatory.
